Fendequip are delighted to be supporting husband and wife team, Adam & Charlie as they prepare to take on what is widely regarded as the premier event in ocean rowing – the gruelling 3000 mile Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge, held between the Canary Islands and Antigua & Barbuda in December 2021.
Not only are they looking to test themselves – both physically and mentally, they are also aiming to raise £100,000 for frontline medical charities that are very close to the couple and their daily lives – as NHS A&E doctors at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (the inspiration behind their team name – ‘The Emergensea Duo’).
Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge Facts
- The current mixed pair record is 43 days, 15 hours and 22 minutes.
- The journey will likely consist of around 1.5 million rowing strokes
- It is expected they will face up to 30ft waves during the crossing
- They will burn in excess of 5000 calories per day
Essential space saving equipment
Amongst the wide range of essential equipment required for such a voyage, race organisers also stipulate that each vessel must be equipped with a set of fenders for safe mooring on their arrival in Antigua.
With stowage space at a premium on-board their 24ft boat – named ‘Persistence’, the couple approached Fendequip to assist in the manufacture and supply of a pair of inflatable fenders that would provide essential mooring protection whilst being compact enough when not in use during the crossing.
